Who We Are

We lived the gaps. We built the bridge.

Tired of watching information get lost, priorities get miscommunicated, and every new caregiver start from scratch, one father trying to make care easier for his autistic daughter assembled a team just as passionate as he is about closing the gap. We built the tool we wished we’d had from the start.

Meet Our Mission-Driven Team

Our team brings deep experience and a chared passion for helping children with special needs and the people who care for them.

James Scapperotti

CEO & Founder

Air Force veteran, technologist, and founder of Guppy, James built the platform from his lived experience as the father of a child with significant support needs. With a background spanning cybersecurity, program management, recruiting, and emerging technology, he brings a practical, systems-focused approach to a deeply personal problem: helping caregivers turn information, recommendations, and everyday moments into clearer next actions. Guppy reflects his belief that technology should support families without replacing their judgment, voice, or control.

Gonzalo Ovalle

CTO & Co-Founder

Former educator and social services professional turned software engineer, Gonzalo brings both technical expertise and a deep understanding of the challenges families face when navigating care systems. His experiences working with individuals with disabilities inspired his commitment to building technology that makes support more connected, accessible, and compassionate. As CTO, he leads the development of Guppy with the belief that great technology should empower caregivers, therapists, and educators to spend more time helping children thrive.

Kami Timmons

Head of Product & Marketing

Army veteran, copywriter, and former educator turned full-stack engineer, Kami brings a rare mix of grit, empathy, and code to the team. She's a mother of 5, including two children on the autism spectrum, a perspective that shapes how she builds Guppy for the caregivers and care teams who need it most. As Head of Product & Marketing she pours everything into giving Guppy the public face and reputation it deserves because Guppy is more than an app. It's the realization of a passion for helping children and families.

Carlton Decker

Lead Backend Developer / Cybersecurity

A 21-year Navy submarine veteran turned backend engineer, Carlton brings discipline, precision, and a security-first mindset to the team. After two decades in IT and network systems for the Submarine Force, he earned a B.S. in Cybersecurity and now builds Guppy's backend defenses — including safeguards against AI prompt injection — to keep every care team's data safe. His son has severe nonverbal autism, so building Guppy isn't just a job for him — it's the tool he wishes his own family had had.

John O'Keeffe

software engineer

Army veteran with degrees in Zoology (B.S.) and Raptor Biology (M.S.),  where he defended a thesis built on original field research. His path ran from leading soldiers to studying raptors, teaching ESL, and collecting land-use data for USGS, building discipline, adaptability, and skill translating complex info for any audience. Teaching students with disabilities, plus family ties to autism and deafness, shaped a conviction: people with disabilities deserve better access, not just more resources. Now a Guppy developer, he brings that discipline, leadership, and conviction to build real support for caregivers.
